Research Position in Electro-Optical Systems
FOI, the Total Defence Research Institute, is one of Europe’s leading institutes for applied research in defense and security. FOI is an authority under the Ministry of Defence, tasked with conducting research, method and technology development, as well as investigations for total defense and in support of disarmament, non-proliferation, and international security. The activities are conducted on behalf of primarily the Government Offices, the Armed Forces, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). At FOI, we have approximately 1400 employees, of which over 1000 work directly with research and development. Our competencies span the entire field from natural sciences and technology to social and political sciences.
How can electro-optical sensors and systems support the Armed Forces? Do you want to be part of an experimental-oriented operation that utilizes the latest technology? With us, you will work on research that is based on real and current needs. You will be at the forefront of development in a workplace where no project is like the other. We offer a balanced work life, a developing work environment, and a socially important job!
About the Position
As a researcher, you will conduct applied research for the benefit of FOI's clients within the defense sector. This includes identifying relevant questions, conducting studies and experiments, and designing experimental equipment. You will also participate in lab and field measurements with various electro-optical systems and sensors, in execution, analysis, and reporting. Client contacts will be a natural part of the work, to a greater or lesser extent.
Working as a researcher at FOI requires a high degree of independence, initiative, and involves a varied job with both research and development as well as expert support. The work is creative and challenging, and it is conducted in project form where you mix teamwork with independent work.
The majority of your working time will be in FOI's premises in Linköping. However, there will be field measurements every year, ranging from a few days to a week. Therefore, travel and outdoor work will be recurring elements.
With us, you will develop your skills. This can occur both within the framework of project activities and in the form of individually tailored skills development based on your and the organization's needs.
About the Unit
You will be part of the Electro-Optical Systems unit, which belongs to the Electronic Warfare department. The unit works on developing, demonstrating, and evaluating electro-optical sensors for military and security-oriented applications. The activities are largely experimental, with measurements conducted both in the lab and in the field.
